Vacation Home:  LaPine, Oregon

If you know the password!!!

CT's Cabin is now available for rentals.

Question number one:  Do you know me?  Question number two:  Are you related to Charles or Lena Moore?

If you answered yes to either of the above,  are eligble to rent CT's Cabin, in La Pine, Oregon, or as we call it L.A. Pine.

It's quite simple.  The rent is $25/night.  If you stay more than 4 nights we'll throw in the fifth night for free.

Now, you may be asking yourself, why would I ever want to go to La Pine?  Hopefully the following will give you the answer:

Three bedroom, two bath completely furnished house.  We're talking everything you ever wanted, right down to the salt on the table.

This is a completely self service rental.  You will be asked to leave the unit in the same or better condition than when you arrive.  This includes doing the laundry (linens and towels), cleaning the kitchen and baths, doing the floors, etc.  BUT WAIT, remember it's only $25/night.  Hard to beat.  Not only that there is a washer/dryer, vacuum, and all the supplies you will need.  We are not trying to make our fortune on this, just pay the bills and make it available to those who would like to enjoy.

So why would you go to La Pine?

Fishing:  There are many high lakes within a 30-40 mile drive.  Wickiup, East Lake, Pauline, Odell, Lava, Twin. The list goes on and on.  There is also the Deschutes and the Little Deschutes Rivers.  We're talking fishing like you wouldn't believe.  And then there's the scenery, and the bald eagles, and the osprey, and the swimming, and the , and the.......

Skiing:  Cross country or down-hill.  Mt. Bachelor, Willamette Pass, and Hoodoo are all within easy travel.

Hiking.  You can't even imagine the possibilities.  Mountain climbing, simple walks in the woods, back packing, it's all within a 50 mile radius.  And speaking of BIKING.  You can do everything from mountain biking down a rugged trail, to sailing along flat open expanses with beautiful vistas from horizon to horizon.  There are two bikes with the rental.

Dining:  LaPine, Silver Lake, Bend, you won't find a better selection anywhere.  Fine wines, cowboy cuisine, eggs Benedict to die for, and anything you can make on a grill, are all available.  Sun River and Bend are both hot beds of upity rural dining.

Hunting:  Good luck with that.  You'll need to get into the drawings for tags.

Most of all we love our 'compound'.  It was built in the mid 50's by Charles Theron Moore, who homesteaded 1.25 ac of land on Evans Way, which was a dirt track.  He built a house on his property on Olive street from salvaged  lumber . from the Eugene Planning Mill.  When the cabin was complete CT and his sons labled the parts, took it apart, loaded it on a borrowed (from the Planning Mill)  truck, hauled it to La Pine and re-constructed it in one weekend.  They later, by hand, and drilled  a well.  The house served as a hunting and fishing cabin for the family.

Following Chariles death in a fishing accident, Jack, and with Art, his son, completed the electrification, and plumbing of the Cabin.  In 2003 Janet (Moore) Burley purchased the Cabin from Jack, and began a restoration.

That didn't last too long.   There was no way to fix all the problems and have an enjoyable vacation home.  It was either tear the whole thing down and start over, or do something else.  When every we would arrive it was always fix  something.......

With luck, and planning, and who knows what else, we were able to put in a manufactured home, which is a delight.  New, clean, functional, heated, air conditioned, furnished and on and on.

Call 541-547-4061.  We'll check the availability for you and pencil in your reservation.  When we receive your payment (checks only, sorry no credit cards), we will make the reservation official.  At that time we will send you the code for the key box and some operating instructions for the cabin, dirving directions, etc.

Guest Book

When CT's cabin was first built, the guest book consisted of left over scrap lumber, nailed to the wall.  Writing was in pencil and somewhat hard to read.  I have attempted to reproduce the originals below.

Next came four pages of cardboard nailed to the wall.

Page 2

Don't know what the blue marking pen was for, but on to page 3

And finally page 4, the last of the wall nailings.

After that, things got fancy when on May 27, 1963 a stenographic note book was added as the guest book.  The new book was not filled up until October of 1981.
